Preparation of a novel superabsorbent hydrogel based on polyacrylic acid/shellac using gamma irradiation for adsorption removal of malachite green dye

The objective of this study is to prepare a super absorbent hydrogel based on polyacrylic acid and an environmentally friendly material such as shellac remove malachite green dye from aqueous solution using gamma radiation. adsorption (MG) dyes (PAA)/shellac (SH) hydrogels was studied. These were prepared by mixing solutions PAA SH at differing molecular ratios (10%, 20%, 30% content in the final reaction mixture) varying doses radiation (10–50 kGy). water absorption PAA/SH 30-kGy dose increased with increase content. removal MG investigated different values for selected parameters, pH, contact time, concentration, adsorbent dosage. highest percentage (95.5%) obtained (30%). As dosage increased, capacity accordingly. combination caused undergo structural changes verified X-ray diffraction Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Scanning electron microscopy employed investigate morphology revealed that belonging matrixes exhibited homogeneous dispersion. thermal stability thermogravimetric analysis. amount adsorbed calculated subtraction ultraviolet–visible (UV–VIS) spectroscopy determination concentration leftover UV–VIS spectrophotometer.
